Hi all,
it's a cornucopia (ooh !) of information for you this time round.
Where to start, where to start ? It's all about AZ Shows, Schedules, Audioboos...

Ok, let's begin with the Audioboo. It's new to me, and something I was asked to do recently, by oft-radio-colleague Eric Wiltsher. Ah, but hang on...it's a talky thing !
Well, I'm not used to that, but soon got into the swing of it, and before I knew it, my allotted 30 minutes were done, and, as they say, dusted.
I ramble on about Music and Vinyl (no surprises there eh ?) and will do more of the same, and touch on many other subjects too, no doubt, in the future.

Latest AZ Schedules !

Hi all,
has it been a while ? I think it has.
Many changes afoot in recent weeks, and we felt the time was right to make them.

Here we are now, on Replay Radio, a total of 7 (yes, seven !) times per week - which consists of 3 brand new Album Zone shows for each 7 day period, with a few repeats thrown in to make it easier for others around the world to still catch us, in differing timezones.

The details ?
Well, http://www.replayradio.net is the place to be, for our main AZ outlet.
The shows go like this (UK timezone quoted here) :

Saturdays at Midnight (repeated Mons at 20.00 and Weds at 08.00)
Sundays at 19.00 (repeated Thurs at 02.00)

Autumnal meanderings

Greetings Zoners,
and Autumn Hi's (highs ?).
Time for a little update on what we have for your ears, as we head into October.

One thought was troubling me - where are the Welsh ? I mean, here we are, this coming week, with the Scots, English, and Irish all represented on the Zone. Funnily enough, none of them are currently residing in their countries of birth. The Scotsman is in England, The Irish Girl also, and the Englishman is in Denmark. Are we all runaways ?
That would explain so much.

No matter, on to the shows in hand, which kick off tonight as Johnny Reece settles in to the chair at midnight (gallons of tea by his side, naturally) for 2 hours, globally, via Replay Radio.

If you are silly enough (sleepy enough, drunk enough, etc etc) to miss the proceedings at midnight tonight, it's repeated there, Monday night at 20.00 hours.

one of those long holiday weekends here in the UK. But have we lazed ? No no !

Hello all,
an update with all this weeks happenings !

Firstly, this week on AZ via Radio Seagull, at http://www.radioseagull.com.

Monday sees Gil Legine in the chair once again, and Simon G pops back on Tuesday, with another brand new show. Then on Wednesday, it's Johnny Reece.

All these programmes are available via Radio Seagull, and, if you miss the 8pm UK timeslot on the days above, remember these programmes are repeated, Friday through Sunday respectively, at 2am.
So, no excuses !

A busy time for Johnny is coming up, as we are happy to tell you that he will also be broadcasting a new weekly show on Replay Radio (http://www.replayradio.net) from the first week of September 2009.
The exact Schedule has yet to be confirmed, but it does look like Midnight on Saturday nights, repeated on Monday evenings 9pm to 11pm (UK time).

The programme will be called 'Johnny Reece's Album Zone'.

Up and coming in forthcoming weeks, will be the 'Woodstock Special' from Rich Phoenix, to mark the 40th Anniversary of the event, the debut show from Lady Samantha, and a 'Bolan Special' from Johnny Reece, in mid September.

The week ahead on AZ...

Greetings Zoners,
a little update for you on the week ahead on AZ, for 17th to 23rd August 2009.

As ever, you'll hear us on air Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, at 20.00 hours (UK time) each evening, via Radio Seagull - at www.radioseagull.com.
This week, Richard Bismarck kicks off proceedings on the Monday, then Barry De Foyle graces us with his latest themed opus on Tuesday, a 'Piano Special'. Don't miss it ! Our 'man from the Foyle' is just getting into his stride with his themed shows, so do give him a listen.
Back in his usual spot on Wednesdays, it's another brand new programme from Johnny Reece.
What's Johnny got for us this week ? 'Not telling you', he said. Ah, well.

The following week sees more newies up and coming, from our man in Copenhagen, the irrepressible and frankly outrageously tall Gil Legine, and the Derbyshire Bard, Mr. Simon G.

Looking further ahead, the 'Woodstock Special' to mark the Anniversary, is now in production, hosted by our very own Rich Phoenix.
All these, and more, will be in your ears soon.
We are hoping to have the Punklicious Zoe back at some point too, but oh, she's a busy girl.

Hi Zoneheads,
how is your summer ?
Blistering hot days interrupted by thundery rain here, but this is England, after all.
We wouldn't have it any other way.

Is it a case of 'all change' at AZ Towers HQ ? As September approaches, it does begin to look like AZ Towers will be making the 'official' move, from London to Norfolk.
Come to think of it, a great deal of the work is already being done there.
Lots of travel back and forth recently, taking much more time as it should, due to various train strikes, meaning stops in Norwich for several hours at a time. Nice city !

On to this week, and here are the Album Zone programmes being aired via Radio Seagull, as ever, Monday to Wednesday, at 8pm UK time (with repeats, respectively, on Friday to Sunday, 2am each time), via http://www.radioseagull.com.

What a funny old week, Zoners.

For most of the week, AZ Towers has been somewhat unmanned, until last Friday, when all hell was let loose with a flurry of activity, Blogs, Bulletins, Programmes, Editing, which will continue right through until Tuesday, when we are seaside bound again.

Hi all,
high time for an update !

First off, we have more than a few playlists to catch up on. Recent AZ Shows have been particularly fascinating, a definite more 'personal' edge to many, with personal 'Gigographies' (from Simon G, and 2 from Johnny Reece) together with 'Greatest Hits' of certain AZ Presenters (and more to come !) and you're delving deep into our psyches, aren't you ?
They've clearly been great fun to do, and there are still many more to come. You know where we are, so don't miss them !

AZ Towers has been in 2 locations in recent times, no mean feat, keeping it running between London, and the Norfolk Coast. Fun and sun though, so who's complaining ?

Radio Seagull sails out to sea later this month, for a 3 week stint on the ocean wave, meaning many AZ Programme times will change for those weeks, as there will be 'live' Programmes broadcast from the ship instead, by DJs on board. We'll let you know the changes nearer the time, but for the most part, AZ will be at 01.00 or 03.00 CET for almost all nights. We'll have our 21.00 CET spot back after the 3 weeks are up.

Good luck to all at Seagull, and I hope everyone has a great time out there. Time and work, unfortunately, simply doesn't allow an AZ 'Live' presence there at this particular time.

A quick weekend Hello, and a Congrats in order for our own man in NJ, Rich Phoenix.
We're talking bigtime promotion at work here. Nice one !
Not only that, but a birthday to come this week (21 ? 31?, we can't say).
Add to this, the Big Guy's brand new AZ Show is broadcast on Tuesday. Don't miss it, via Radio Seagull, at www.radioseagull.com, Tuesday, at 21.00 CET (or 20.00 UK, 15.00 EST).

It's repeated at 21.00 EST on Friday evening, and 03.00 CET and 02.00 UK on Friday morning.
Also coming up, the brand new Simon G Show, on Monday, at 21.00 CET...

Once we reach late May and early June, our programme times will change considerably for approximately 3 weeks, due to other 'Live' Broadcasts eminating from the Seagull Ship - but that's a few weeks away, and we'll let you know all about those at the time...

It's been a while hasn't it ?

Whoops ! A month has passed. And there was I , thinking I'd been keeping all things up to date and shipshape, with Myspace Bulletins about programming. But no, I'd forgotten the cherished ol' Blogspot. So here we are ! I thought as it has been a while, I should meander a little, tell you what's been going on, and to finish, provide you with a good month or so of upfront AZ Schedules. Fair enough ?

Work has kept me fairly busy of late, with a stranger working pattern than usual, weekends included, but I have always found time for the Album Zone. If I could choose 'highlights' of the past few weeks (I shouldn't, but I will) they would have to be Richard Bismarck's 'round the world' musical show, the Rich Phoenix 'greatest hits' show, and Johnny Reece's B Sides special.
I am not always the biggest fan of features, but when they encompass a whole 2 hour programme it can be a fascinating experience, not to mention a personal one for the presenter him/herself, which is a feeling I think comes through when the show is aired, and that's what makes them even more of a pleasure to hear - the personal touch.
I am told there are more 'specials' to come in weeks ahead too, from just about all of the AZ crew. I look forward to it !
In days to come, the clock ticks by and I get another year older. I don't feel it though, so maybe I'm doing the right thing. I said 'maybe'.

On to the matter in hand, and here goes with the AZ Schedules for March and April 2009.
I will explain - 2 'dates' are featured below for each show, the first is the 20.00 hrs (UK time) slot, the second being the 02.00 hrs (again, UK) slot, 4 days later. If any show is a repeat playing, it is labelled as such. We only play repeats on weekdays that the particular show has not been aired previously. Sounds very efficient to me !
To be truthful, it's a mixture of Scots-Dutch efficiency, and all via our good friends at Radio Seagull, in the Netherlands. As ever, via http://www.radioseagull.com.

Hi Zoneheads,
Spring has sprung. Well, maybe. I even had a coffee out in an open air cafe today and suddenly thought 'woah !, I'd better tell the Zoners what's on this week' ! So, here I am.
I have been loving the more 'personal' edge to a lot of the recent AZ output, with the leaning towards a kind of faves - of - all - time type vibe. This will continue, so I'm told, as Gil Legine and Andy Miles have had hints dropped in their direction, on this. The odd 'Guilty Pleasures' show may rise too, courtesy of Johnny and Zoe.

But, to this week, and tonight, Monday, at 20.00 UK (and repeated at 21.00 EST on Thursday) it is the turn of Rich Phoenix to guide us with his own musical wisdom, on not only what makes him tick, but what made him tick from the very start.
As you know, www.radioseagull.com is the place to be.

Tuesday, same time same place, with the repeat on Friday, it's Richard Bismarck's latest opus. Again, not to be missed. And that's an order.

Into a New Year...

Yes I know, I'm late late late... but Happy New Year anyway !

For 2009, I wish you all that you wish yourselves (well, nearly).
I know I'm biased, but the range of Album Zone Programmes recently has been excellent. A few 'specials' here and there, and may I say, not 'planned' as such, but last minute ideas coming to the fore. Firstly, we had Simon G doing his 'best of 2008' special - not only from the year itself, but many vintage pieces he had discovered in the last year, musical gems from years gone by.
It was fascinating to listen to.
Then our own Richard Bismarck popped up with a truly worldwide spectacular. Every track from a different country, I think he squeezed 30 of them into 2 hours in the end.
Next up, Rich Phoenix, and a special which is coming your way within the next fortnight.
We felt it was about time Rich did a truly personal show, his 'Greatest Hits' if you excuse the expression, songs that meant so much to him from growing up times, his experiences on USA Radio in the 60s and 70s, and right up to today. Some real surprises in there too, I've had a sneak preview.
In the planning stages now, are some shows featuring 'Guilty Pleasures', which both Johnny Reece and Zoe are working on. Expect the unexpected !

Incidentally, in case you missed it, the Richard Bismarck 'Worldwide' show, is repeated this Tuesday, 27th January, at 8pm (UK time) via Radio Seagull (http://www.radioseagull.com). Then the last play will be 30th January, same place, at 21.oo hours, EST. Tune in if you can !

The next Johnny Reece Show follows on Wednesday, 28th, also via Seagull. As ever, expect the unexpected !
Now, to Rich's show. First airing via Seagull is Tuesday 3rd Febriuary, week after next, at 8pm UK time. This is repeated on 6th February at 21.00 EST. Be there ! There will be another opportunity to hear Rich's show late in February, too.

The punklicious Zoe breezed back into AZ Towers just the other day, and you can hear her new opus a week on Monday, 2nd February, at 8pm. I'll give you all the full Programme Schedules by next weekend, including news of newies up and coming from Andy Miles, and Gil Legine.

Now to the rather unhappy news that another Radio Station bites the dust, and that's RTI.
They cease programming at 11pm UK time tonight, Sunday, via www.rti.fm. Regulars to AZ will already know all about RTI, through The Album Zone. This is news that didn't come as too much of a surprise for us, after hearing of the closure of their FM outlets. The reasons behind it all we can only guess, but we do know large slices of broadcasting red tape are involved, and we presume the financial implications of that naturally followed. The English service via their FM outlets was first to go, after being on/off for a while, but the biggest shock to us, was hearing of the loss of the FM service to their local, loyal listeners. That had been going for many years, 10 ?, 20 ?, I'm not sure. Now they have no Radio Station they can truly call 'local', and that's perhaps the saddest thing, together with the fact that the people that I had heard all about, and the people that Johnny Reece met and had the pleasure of receiving great hospitality from, all suddenly seem to be out of work.
The closure of their own local service was a real surprise, and it became clear that much writing was already on the wall. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all their former staff well. I have heard much about them.
The announcement, 48 hours ago, that the Sky Satellite outlet was to close too, came as no real surprise, following the news of the earlier FM closures.
We have had the odd, shall we say, 'run-in' with RTI in the past, over various programming issues, but it is a sad day when a Station closes - particularly when so may people local to the area are affected. We wish them well.

Finally, our thanks, as ever, to our friends at our various outlets, who continue to broadcast The Album Zone around the world, from various locations. Radio Seagull now airs AZ eight times per week worldwide via the Net, then Hesser College Radio in New Hampshire USA once on Saturdays via the net, and WCRV locally, twice a week, in Pennsylvania. Kudos and thanks to you all.

Here at AZ Towers we've been producing and editing, getting everything done upfront, as our outlets demand that, pre-xmas.
All done now !
Well, almost, the Programmes are done, but the wrapping of presents is still to happen.
I swear I'll get that done today !
Honestly !

As I write this, December 21st, it's beginning to calm down, and all the AZ Personnel are involved in their own xmas plans, many travelling to far and wide, for the holidays.
It's just me here, and I'm behaving (really), preparing to type out a lot of playlists for you, which will appear later today via our MySpace Blog (http://www.myspace.com/albumzone).
I am not even allowing myself a drop of brandy - it's too early for that.
Coffee it is, as concentration is needed.

Ho Ho Ho...

Hang on, no, it's a little too early for that.
But, Xmas planning is something we have to do here at AZ Towers, as many of our programming outlets want a good deal of shows upfront, so, it's been a planning, scheduling week.
No surprises then, that a little Xmas activity is beginning to creep into some of the programmes.

Great to have Simon G back with us after a little absence, and his 'Xmas Special' is superb - yes, I'm biased - but I heard it upfront and loved it. Xmas songs not so obvious, but great all the same. That will be coming your way for the first time, on Tuesday 16th December (8pm UK) and then 20th December (02.00 UK) via www.radioseagull.com.

Just yesterday, the very punklicious Zoe arrived here at AZ Towers, to cut her latest opus. Expect Ska, Punk, and some strangely mad Xmassy messages on this one, which airs for the first time on Monday 8th December (8pm UK), and is repeated at 02.00 (UK) on Friday 12th.
Once again, this is via our good friends at Radio Seagull (www.radioseagull.com).

Both of these particular programmes will be repeated again over the Xmas period, I'll let you know when the time comes, ok ?

Bonsoir !
Just how long is it since I have been around the hallowed ground of AZ Towers ?
Quite a while, I will admit, but I am back tonight, to tell you of what's new, old, blue, and borrowed. Or something.
I have been away, back, away, back again, and others in the AZ biosphere have had everything ranging from annual vacations to sneaky little French trips.
As soon as my back is turned, off they go !
I look forward, very much, to hear the travel tales of Mr Bismarck, expected soon.
As for Mr Reece, I am sure you may hear the odd Parisian tale on his new programme, which will burst into your ears next week, should you wish. Much post Parisian chat, I feel.
Great too, to have Simon G back with us, after a long absence. Simon's new programme will be airing via Radio Seagull, week after next, early November, although those lucky enough to be around the Lake Ariel region in Pennsylvania, can hear it this weekend.
Up and coming in forthcoming weeks too, a new opus from Rich Phoenix, and another solo gem from Zoe. Add to this, a new Barry de Foyle programme is due next week, too.
Whew, that's enough, don't you think ? No ?
Well, here is next weeks line-up then, via Radio Seagull, and as ever, it's 8pm UK time, via www.radioseagull.com, from Monday, through Wednesday.
Expect your ears rocked out on Monday, with the help of Andy Miles.

It's one of those lightning quick updates !, as the Eurostar is calling.
Up to me today, as the infamous Mr Lloyd is away until tomorrow. Off to Paris in about an hour, so Albums by Malcolm McLaren and films starring Audrey Tautou are already beginning to spring to mind... just a 48 hour trip, with a gig by the ultimately splendid Emiliana Torrini to attend, tomorrow evening.
On to the matter in hand !
A quick update on Album Zone via Radio Seagull shows for you this week, Monday to Wednesday inclusive, at 21.00 hours CET - that's 20.00 UK... just nip to radioseagull.com, and listen in... tonight it's Andy Miles, Tuesday sees the return of Barry de Foyle, and on Wednesday evening it's a co-hosted affair, with myself and Zoe... be there !

Hi Zoneheads,
here we are, back with a vengeance. Late with this update, I know, but here we are after a busy day here at AZ Towers.
All throaty fluey bugs have been quashed squashed and mangled (doesn't that conjur up pretty pictures eh ?) and we return to the business of putting things in your ears.
Not literally of course, unless that's what you perversely require.

AZ Towers has been busy this week, not only with Johnny Reece recording some choice cuts upfront due to his forthcoming visit to Paris looming large, but also Barry de Foyle's newie for October arriving within these hallowed walls, and, today, it was the turn of Reecey and Zoe, to record their 4th joint soiree opus.
I urge you not to miss this one, when it comes around in a week or so.

Worth noting too, that our friends at Radio Seagull are now broadcasting 24/7 via their website at http://www.radioseagull.com, and they are now on MySpace too - http://www.myspace.com/radioseagull.

Hi all,
there is some flu-ish throaty temperature sneezy downright nasty bugs hanging around AZ Towers at the moment, so I have sneaked in to tell you who is on and when, and shall beat a hasty quick retreat.
If I see any around though, I'll give them a good swat, ok ?

Spare a thought for our buddies at Radio Seagull, suffering, yesterday, what has happened to us on a couple of previous occasions. That is, a complete hard drive failure. These things are not pretty, a damn nuisance, and play complete havoc with any sort of Programming plans. They are trying to get sorted before the end of the weekend, so, good luck guys !

Into the weekend...

Hello again Zoners,
has it been a good week ?
It's been a busy one here at AZ Towers, doing all sorts of allegedly complicated things with Studio parts, whilst all still went along as normal. Well, as normal as it can be here !
As ever, Johnny was recording shows, and last Tuesday, Zoe returned, her first visit here since her Iceland trip. Add to this, that the new Gil Legine opus has arrived, after a few months break.
Plenty to be getting along with !
Pride of place this coming week, schedule wise, seems to be split amongst 3 people, as it turns out. Earlier today, Johnny Reece was aired on WCRV 97.7 in Pennsylvania, and on Sunday, they will air the brand new Zoe Paranoimia Show - it's first airing, anywhere.
Johnny also appears on Hesser College Radio, on Saturday (Noon EST) via www.backbone.com/hesser. This will be his show before last, from 11th September.
.
Into next week, and we are aired by Radio Seagull (www.radioseagull.com) and yes, you know the times by now don't you ?
Mon, Tue, Wed, at 21.00 CET, and respectively, it will be Richard Bismarck, Zoe (August Show), and then the brand new Johnny Reece Show, on Wednesday.
Repeats of these run at 03.00 CET on Fri, Sat, Sun...

RTI will also air Johnny's new Show, on Monday evening, on Sky 0195 and globally via www.rti.fm, at 22.00 CET.

Time to tell you of AZ Programmes around the globe, coming up (oh, and what's just been on too)... Our good friends at WCRV (97.7, Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania) aired the brand new Richard Bismarck Show on Friday evening. This is the last Mr Biz one for a few weeks, as it's holiday time for him. Expect travel tales on his return !

Today, Saturday, Hesser College Radio in Manchester, New Hampshire, aired the latest Andy Miles Show. They broadcast on 540 AM locally, and on the Net, at www.backbone.com/hesser.
AZ is aired there on Saturdays, at Noon, EST.

Sunday sees WCRV back in the frame, as the new Johnny Reece Show is aired.

The Scotsmans newie can also be heard globally on Monday evening, at 21.00 UK time, on Sky Satellite, Channel 0195, and via the Net, at www.rti.fm, simultaneously.

Then, it's the turn of Radio Seagull, from the Netherlands (www.radioseagull.com) to get in on the act, with 6 airings of The Album Zone through next week.
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, at 20.00 UK time, you can hear Rich Phoenix, Reecey and Zoe, and Johnny Reece, respectively. These will be repeated at 03.00 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Our next visitor here to AZ Towers will be the delectable and punklicious Ms Z, here on Tuesday for the next show. We also expect, by the end of September, to hear the return of Gil Legine.

News through late yesterday, that Johnny Reece has been invited back as a previous winner, to once again appear on the TV Show 'Mike Reads Pop Quiz', sometime in October. Nice !
He claims that as he wore a Roxy Music T-shirt for his last appearance, that he's thinking of wearing an AZ one next time.

Hi all,
into September we go, and it's time to tell you what's going to be stamping its feet and looking for the attention of your ears. Certainly not my singing voice, which was, unfortunately for those attending, present and incorrect at a very out of hand birthday party at work.
I usually refuse point blank to get involved in any such displays of alleged entertainment, but the brandy decided otherwise.
I will never live it down...
Needless to say, my rendition of 'One For My Baby' will not be, as they say, a chartbound sound.

On to the matters in hand, and this weekends AZ Schedules.
Let's kick off with Radio Seagull, and Monday through Wednesday, at 22.00 CET each night, you can hear the new AZ Shows from Zoe, Barry de Foyle, and Johnny Reece, respectively.
As regulars will know, these shows are also repeated on Seagull at 03.00 CET, on Friday through Sunday. All these programmes can be accessed via http://www.radioseagull.com.

WCRV in Pennsylvania, 97.7, air AZ twice per week, at 18.00 EST. Friday (today), will be the brand new opus from Rich Phoenix, and on Sunday, it's Johnny Reece.

Our new friends at Hesser College Radio (540 AM and also streamed on the net via http://www.backbone.com/hesser) will be airing the Johnny Reece show from 24 August, at 12.00 EST, tomorrow, Saturday.

Catching up... and extra AZ on Seagull !

Where have you been ? Where have I been ? Oh, it's been a busy time. Right in the middle of traditional holiday time here, so it has been quieter than usual. However, AZ Shows abound, and we're happy to report than Radio Seagull, as well as airing us 6 times per week, are airing 3 hours extra Album Zone, this Sunday, from 14.00 - 17.00 hrs CET.
Our new friends at WCRV Pennsylvania seem to be happy, and now air us twice per week, Fridays and Sundays, at 18.00 hours, CET.

Lots of playlists to catch up on, but I will leave that for another time, and swamp you with them, all at once !
Great fun here at AZ Towers last Saturday, as we watched Johnny Reece on TV, in the Pop Quiz. He won, of course !

We've had one eye on the Olympics of course, which has been so enjoyable. Slightly tricky to catch things with the time difference, so a lot of catching up via highlights programmes has been the order of the day. And here's a funny thing. Look around the world, and you'll see that China has been at the top of the medals table for quite a while now - unless you are watching it in the USA - where they have put themselves at the top.
As far as we can make out, it's only the USA that do this - ah, that's democracy for you !
They do it with 'total medals won', as opposed to what everyone else does, which is Golds.
There was a very amusing radio programme I heard the other day, commenting on this, with various reporters from various countries taking part, and the wonderfully pointed comments going back and forth were a joy to listen to. They could have made am olympic event out of it, itself ! It finished up with a European reporter telling the US reporter that 50 Bronzes, are not better than 49 Golds. You get the picture. It was akin to listening to an argument in a nursery.
So, whilst there is healthy rivalry and deep respect between the athletes, it's left to the reporters to make complete asses of themselves. Marvellous !
It does, in reality, boil down to the fact that everyone wants to make their own country seem the best, in any way they can, even if it means bending the rules a little. Ah, sportsmanship is alive and well !
My only disappointment is missing both the semi-finals and final of the Women's Beach Volleyball Competition. And I mean that purely as a Sports fan, naturally.

Back to AZ land, and happy holidays to Zoe, who nips off to Iceland for a fortnight, at least.
Major music festivals and global events there as ever at this time of year, so we look forward to stories and tales on her return. She has left us with a couple of brand new programmes to keep us going, thankfully. Vicious rumours abound that Mr Bismarck is off and running too, though we don't know where yet. But we'll find out shortly.
Gil Legine meanwhile, returns to the AZ airwaves in September.
Up and coming this week on Seagull (you know the days and times by now, don't you ?) will be Simon G, and the Reecey and Zoe Show.
If you're in the UK, have a fine Bank Holiday weekend. Many, many people, as ever, take the opportunity this weekend to nip off to foreign climes, Paris, Venice, and Barcelona being the obvious favourites. This town is deserted !

Firstly, congratulations to Seagull for now officially being 24/7, both on 1602 AM around the northern Netherlands, but worldwide via the Net too. That all fell into place in the past week.
As you know, The Album Zone can be heard via Seagull, 6 times per week (Mondays to Wednesdays, 20.00 CET, and repeated Fridays to Sundays, 03.00 CET).
Seagull are reaching out in other ways too, with the updates beginning to happen on their MySpace page. It has never really been built upon before, but work on the Site began in the past week, and in forthcoming months, an extended gallery and more news on the formation of the Station, will be published. Our AZ Programmes continue too, twice a week, via our good friends at WCRV, in Pennsylvania, Lake Ariel, 97.7 FM.
This weekend, Barry De Foyle is being heard for the first time, along with the most recent 'Reecey and Zoe' co-hosted Programme, the third in the series.
Next week, should see the debut of Richard Bismarck, to the WCRV airwaves.

Ah yes, Summertime AZ Schedules.
Just the time to Blog this, as I look outside at darkness, thunder and rain. Hmmm...

We're very pleased to be in our new time on Radio Seagull, 21.00 CET (20.00 UK) on Mon, Tue, Wed... with repeats of those AZ Shows respectively at 03.00 CET on Fri, Sat, Sun.
We think the 8pm UK slot is much better for us, and thanks to our friends at Radio Seagull for instigating the change, after a chat we had recently.
Incidentally, a new Radio Seagull MySpace page is up, and will be built on over the forthcoming weeks.

WCRV in Pennsylvania, have now begun airing The Album Zone, as of last Friday night, with the 2nd of the 'Reecey and Zoe' Programmes. We will air twice a week via WCRV, at 18.00 EST on Fridays and Sundays, a different new show, each time.
The Station is located in the Lake Ariel region, and broadcasts on 97.7 FM.
We hope this will be the first of many USA outlets. We'll keep you informed !

To the August Schedules, and not so straightforward this time.
We did deliberately keep some shows back, as Seagull were, during July, featuring special 'Live' Broadcasts from their Radio Ship.
Therefore, some AZ Shows which were previously on the Pod, have not yet been aired via our good friends in the Netherlands. So, it's a case of squeezing them all in, alongside regular brand new Programmes.
All August and into September 2008 Schedules are listed below, the first date being 21.00 CET as we mentioned, and the second being 03.00 CET.
Any brand new Programmes never aired before anywhere else, are listed as 'New'.

Irony and inefficiency, in this day and age

Sometimes, you have interesting weeks. In fact, we could use a stronger word than 'interesting', but we'll stick with that for the moment. Stand by your beds - this is going to be a long Blog.
Those with no interest in Radio Politics look away now (should that be run away ?) or forever hold your peace.
Here goes...

Sunday morning arrives, and emails abound, from listeners saying 'where's the Pod' ?
Ah, a little technical fault, we thought at first.
As the day progressed, it all became clearer, especially when we managed to check various forums, to which our Pod community belongs.
It seems the powers that be in the States (Radio wise) the IPFI and DMCA, had their little automatic 'bots' running over the weekend, to disable thousands of files that even hinted at the word 'mp3'.
Well, we can understand that - too much illegal downloading and sharing going on, and in that case, we support them - after all - who lost their business, a CD/Record Shop of 14 years, to the strength of the illegal download ?
One of our very own, as if you didn't know.
But, and 'but' is the operative word here - so many innocent people were caught in the crossfire, ourselves here at AZ included. So, so many - even those who made, produced, and owned the copyrights to their own music ! Naturally, rightly, they were outraged, as they should be.
Now, it's all very well to have rules and regulations, but when you are a huge organisation (such as the DMCA) who, by putting measures in practise, actually harm some musicians, to such a point that they lose royalties because their system really is not up to scratch, that's not really good enough is it ?, especially when the system is designed to protect musicians, and not harm them.
Worth thinking about - although unfortunately, it's not something they would care to admit.
Now, to our case.
We do NOT fileshare Albums, Singles, DVDs, or anything like it. Never have, never will.
We put our own Radio Shows up on the Pod, purely as a back-up, for listeners who may have missed them on our legitimate -yes, LEGITIMATE Broadcasts via our outlets.
Add to this, that all royalties to artists are paid for by those Stations, who air our Music.
Also, we do not 'Broadcast' a Pod, as such. It sits, still, silent, not being used or using up any copyrights at all, and only clicks into life (rarely) when a listener, wherever, wants it to.
The mail we have always received, is 'heard you on such and such a station' - certainly not 'heard you on a Pod'. That's all it has been - a simple back up for those that may have missed something, no more than a common courtesy to our own listeners and supporters.
The downloads, for what they were, were so, so minimal.
But - everyone is the same in the eyes of the powers that be - and this is where the problem lies.
I still have emails from listeners thanking us here at AZ, for introducing them to Artists they would never have heard otherwise, on 'normal' Radio.
Many add the fact that they have gone out and bought material by these artists. because of us.
Examples ? Lisahall, Morris Quinlan Experience, Emiliana Torrini... I could go on.
Think about that for a second. Those artists I just mentioned, all earnt royalties due to our direct actions in promoting them. Yet - we are treated as if the opposite has happened.
So, in effect, the powers that be are not only preventing illegal sharing - which we support - they are also preventing Artists from receiving royalties ! There's irony for you.
And they think this is a good system ?
The truth is, everyone is lumped in together, because they do not know how to manage it.
I'm no expert - it would be impossible to do - but if there is one thing the powers that be do not have, it's a face. Or, any common sense. When you find an illegal sharer who continues to share whole albums - stop it.
When you find someone promoting - surely encourage ???
Point out the above facts, and you get quoted rules (rules that you already know).
Offer to pay royalties/fees for the minimal amount a Pod is used - and they refuse anyway, as they do not have the staff to manage it. That's the biggest irony of them all - as the Pod, for how much it is used, would be, we calculate, approx 12 Dollars per month in royalties. But we're not allowed - because they cannot control it. Is it that difficult to put a simple system in ?
That, and the fact they are harming Artists when their job is to protect them, is perhaps the worst irony of all. Sadly - they probably may not realise this.
That was certainly true when a similar thing happened when they purged Live365, and hundreds of Stations had to go.
I beg your pardon, but the word IRONY should be in capital letters.
I see a point in stopping illegality - we don't want the Music Industry harmed - we love music, it's why we do what we do. Isn't that obvious ?
Add the point that we actively promote artists who never, sorry, NEVER get heard on the Radio, by and large.
Who is going to stand up for those Artists then ? Or now ? Anyone have an answer to that ?
As we see it, the rules are in place for those who may lose an extra cent because 'Hotel California' is being played for the zillionth time that day. Certainly not for any struggling Musicians who would hold their hands (or guitars) up to the heavens in glee at receiving some airplay.
Not a word, not a peep of support, for the Artists who we actively support and promote.
But - everyone is put in the same boat, as far as alleged 'Broadcast Copyright' is concerned.
Those who promote are treated in the same way as those who steal.
And that is called progress. and 'protection of copyright'.
The most worrying thing is, those people in charge, actually believe they're right.

So, no Pod.
But, not to worry - we continue to broadcast via legitimate legal Stations (as we always have, and always will - those in authority, take note please, if you have time to tear yourselves away from 'getting up your monthly number quota' without seeing the actual facts in front of you).
And we have to thank various people - those in authority too - who have voiced support in cases like ours, and others.
They have been the first to admit how outdated and archaic the current copyright system is, and admit how frustrating it is that no-one has the power to do anything about it, to ensure the same hand that allegedly feeds, is not actually taking away with the other.
Funny old world.

The Times They Are A Changin'...

Hi all,
just a quick update re our Programme times, via Radio Seagull.
We had been in discussions with our good Dutch friends recently, and requested a slightly later evening slot for AZ, on the Mondays through Wednesdays Schedule.
.
Happily, this has been granted, and as from August, The Album Zone will now be in the much more accessible 21.00 hours CET slot (that's 20.00 hours UK), on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, locally via Seagull on 1602 AM, and around the world on the Net.
Repeats for all of these follow on the 03.00 CET slot, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays respectively, which is perfect for our Net listeners in the USA and Canada, due to the different time zones involved.

Hi all,
welcome to the weekend, and it's back to AZ duties for a few of us, after doing that boring old thing called 'real jobs and real life' for a week. How nice it is to escape that !
The 'Live' experiment at Radio Seagull seems to very popular, and I have no doubt that we at AZ Towers will sit down sometime in the future and try to thrash out a few calendar dates to enable at least some of us to broadcast 'live' from the Netherlands. It really is about time we nipped over to visit them again, particularly as they now have a fabulous lightship in the harbour to broadcast from, and not the land based studios we were used to on previous occasions.
.
Our own plane re Broadcasting via various outlets in various countries are taking shape, although we do stress that it is September before we really put this into action.
The Radio world can be very, very quiet during the summer months, and we are all too aware of this. So, it's plans just now, and action later.
.
Lovely and warm here at AZ Towers, mid to late 80s on the old fashioned temperature scale, although it feels much warmer, and unpleasantly muggy. That's the thing about huge towns. Now, the mid 80s at a seaside resort would be much more refreshing.
Where's my bucket and spade ? And don't take photos of us in shorts, if you please.

Hi all,
and welcome to another Playlist frenzy update.
I've been immersing myself in Japanese culture - not easy to do at the best of times, as it is so regionalised, and one region may have completely different ideals, traditions, foods, etc etc from another. So, a lot of generalisation has gone on.
I love it, apart from the sushi.

Back to the plot. There has been so many new AZ Shows of late, there really is quite a lot of catching up to do, with the publishing of the playlists, for Shows recently uploaded to the Pod.

Hi all,
I didn't really think that Radio and Tennis would be a surefire mix, but for 2 weeks a year in this part of the world, it surely is. Wimbledon is on, just down the road from AZ Towers, and has provided a welcome break at times from the steamy studio.
I love the traditions involved, a proper grass court (as it was meant to be), players in all white, and one eye on that traditional Wimbledon spoiler - the weather.
Sad to say my own favourite didn't do so well, Maria Kirilenko, who is really a clay or hard court specialist, grass doesn't suit her. Shame !, as I could watch her all week ! I did cheer her on in the semi of the mixed doubles last night, but to no avail. And it was all over for her in the Singles, over a week ago. Ah, well.
No doubt I'll see a bit of the Women's final, though I doubt I'll watch all of it, not really being a fan of the Williams sisters, though it is essential viewing for a short while if you want to see how amusing Serena looks. I'm convinced she's dressed by an old maiden aunt who is convinced she is 4 years old and going out for a picnic, before she goes on court. Quite a sight.
Strange to see my other faves, Sharapova and Ivanovic, going out of the tournament earlier. The Serbs and Russians, for the main, do tend to dominate the Women's game in recent years. How the Men's game has changed too - when growing up it was Australians and Americans - and the chance of seeing either nationality in the late stages of big tournaments now is very much a thing of the past. You never know where the next big thing is coming from.
Nastase was my favourite, way back, before you ask (something tells me he's a bit too old to compete now, though). With typical Scottish fervour, we shouted on Andy Murray this time, who did well, getting to the last 8. 'One for the future', as the cliche says.

Back to reality and headphones, and that Pod of ours is now brimmed with new delights, as we promised you.

Weekend action !

Hi Zoneheads,
what a funny old week it's been on the Zone.
Time for change, and probably long overdue. For those that don't know, we have withdrawn our programmes from RTI, with immediate effect, no need to go into details - you all know why.
A Radio Station needs to be on air, enough said.
.
Onward and upward, and for the sake of some continuity, we will retain Saturday 9pm and Sunday 8pm as 'debut' Album Zone Shows, when we feel the need.
But all new Shows, wherever they are Broadcast (more about this below !) will always, always, be on our Pod first for you. Fair enough ? We really do think it's the most efficient way to be.
You can access the Pod 24/7, naturally.
.
We are really looking forward to our new arrangement with WCRV, 97.7, Pennsylvania.
It's something we have never really looked into before, allowing local FM Stations in different countries to have the AZ feed, but I think it will be a lot of fun. It's nice to be asked, too.
Initially, WCRV will air The Album Zone on Fridays, at 18.00 hours, EST.
.
Discussions continue, by the way, with New York Metropolitan area Broadcasters.
When something breaks (not literally !) you will hear it right here, first, as ever.

a quick update, as we are all too busy sitting around with cold drinks and ice cream.

Last night you may well have rocked out to Andy Miles, well, tonight, you can hear the Johnny Reece Soiree, in its usual time and place.
Sunday, 20.00 (UK time) or 21.00 in Europe, via www.rti.fm, and via Sky 0195.
Expect the unexpected.
Well, we always say that, but this time the element of truth has increased somewhat.
Some of the Vinyl archive was raided, including some dusty gems which had not seen the light of day, for more years than any of us could comfortably admit.
Alongside the odd newie or advance play of the likes of Matthew Sweet, you can also hear the little known Tin Tin, The Tourists, and, ermm, Lance Percival. And much more.

Weekend... and on time ?

Hi Zoners,
it's been a little while.
Off here and there I have been, but now back in a paint-fumed AZ Towers (decorating is afoot !).
I'm pleased to see Simon G back with the Zone. I missed his Programmes, and it's great that he's back in the regular line-up. You'll catch him tonight, Saturday, around 9pm UK time, via www.rti.fm, or on Sky 0195. Oh, and if you miss it, it is, naturally, on our trusty pod.
.
Sunday sees Johnny Reece and Gil Legine in their respective chairs - that's right, a co-hosted Programme, following the tall viking's visit to the UK shores in recent days. Expect lots of musical chat as ever, and a few choice cuts, and ridiculous radio memories from times of yore.
You know what those two are like once they get together !
If RTI can bring it upon themselves to actually play the Programme at the right time, then it should be at 20.00 hours UK time via RTI and SKY, on Sunday evening.
.
And, a word or two - from a neutral - on the above.
We have had many contacts from listeners, asking, basically, what on earth RTI are doing, having the Sunday Show scheduled at the wrong time, for the umpteenth occasion.
Many of you asked a very pertinant question - 'why bother' ?
Well, I put this question to the Scotsman himself.
'Because it's on Sky - no more, no less' was the blunt but truthful answer.
Oh, with an addendum of 'but after 3 years you'd think they'd get the bloody thing right'.
So, now you know.
.
An interesting discussion did rise up amongst some Zoners regarding the closure of English Language Programmes on the FM outlet of RTI.
Much press about this (mainly from RTI themselves).
Sitting back, and thinking about this with a completely unbiased viewpoint, I can see two sides.
Whereas on the one hand, it does seem to be a terribly backward step, particularly in the light of so called European 'unity', there is the other train of thought (and this is my personal one, so agree or disagree with me on this - your choice) that RTI really never did encourage the type of English Programmes to attract or even involve the local Slovak listener.
I will even go so far as to say, that I am proud that the Album Zone has regularly mentioned the local service, the people, and, indeed, played Slovak Bands in the Programmes.
But, we were the only ones who made the effort to do this - a point worth noting.
Many shows never made the effort - for even a second, so I am not too surprised at the decision.
Surely, if promotion of multi-culturism is the key, or your Station remit, then you must feature Programmes to reflect this ? Shouldn't that be common sense for a Station Manager ?
Oh, don't get me started on Programme Controllers and Radio Station managers !!!
Well, just my tuppence worth.
You want to attract locals ? Then do something to attract them, and, moreso, involve them in the Programming to their own area.
Don't abandon them, or... well, you know.
Quite simple really.
The more I think about it, I'm hearing a lot of moans after the horse has bolted.

4th June... a Viking invasion

Hello all,

fun at AZ Towers last night, as the tall cool one (ok, Gil Legine to his friends) once again visited these shores. A matter of hours at AZ Towers and all that reminiscing began again (as it should !) and a last minute 'ok, let's do a show' thing occured.
So, expect to hear a Reece/Legine co-hosted show in your ears from Sunday 15th, with, no doubt, some strange stories included.

Incidentally, due to what can only be described as a cock-up by the powers that be in countries far far away, the Johnny Reece show aired 1 hour later than it should have done, last Sunday. Therefore, we are repeating it (hopefully they'll get the time right this time !) this Sunday, 8th June.
Oh, and it's on our Pod anyway...

And what's this about RTI having to stop all English spoken programming on it's local FM service, with immediate effect ?
Hmm, a step backwards for European relations, no doubt.
Many complaints afoot - but there's no use sending them to us - it's the Broadcast Authorities in Slovakia who currently, clearly, have their brains up their own backsides. European understanding my ass !
No matter - we're still on globally via the Net and across Europe via Sky courtesy of RTI, so we're not exactly panicking. It's a local affair.
But if you wish to voice your opinion at the short sightedness of the relevant authorities, by all means go to the ww.rti.fm front page, where you'll be able to vent your spleen, if you so desire !
No such problems at Radio Seagull in the Netherlands, who air us globally, and on AM in their own country, and relay too, to Tenerife on FM.

Sounds crossing the pond

Greetings Zoners,
and here we are on (yet) another Bank Holiday weekend, in the UK.
How did the travels go, I hear you ask ? (well, I don't, but I'm going to tell you anyway).
The much talked about Norway trip was abandoned at the last minute, due to airport strikes, which at the time we cancelled, affected 6 Norwegian Airports, and eventually spread to 12.
It really wasn't worth the risk. Oslo would have been fine, but our onward forays from there would have been difficult and more time consuming than we had hoped. As it was Bergen we all really wanted to see, we decided to stay put, and we'll go another time.
The infamous Mr Lloyd, meanwhile, is esconced in cottage style living in Brittany, France, until late next week.
So, it's a Scots update for you, with no tales whatsoever of Slartibartfast.
Ah, we'll catch up with him next time.

This weekend, Rich Phoenix is back on SKY and RTI for the first time in a while. It's 21.00 hours by the UK clock, tonight, Saturday, on Sky 0195, and around the Net via www.rti.fm.

It's a Scots update today, as Steve is off to France this afternoon, doing the old visiting the family and friends routine. As for me, it's Norway on Monday, so we're all feeling a little bit urban and windswept and interesting.

This little update is by way of telling you all the news that's fit to print, before we all go off on our brief travels. So, Norman, The Sphinx, and Mona Lisa will be looking after the AZ Towers Studio for 4 days. They had better behave !
Firstly, to this weekend, and the Reecey and Zoe jointly hosted show appears via Sky tonight. It's on the Pod already, as most of you will know. Check it out ! Another co-hosted one will be in your ears within a couple of weeks too, as we enjoyed doing the first one immensely.

And we swelter !

Lovely and hot in London town today. With heat here though, out comes the humidity too, though I'm far from complaining - less than a month ago, it was snowing.
But is it the sort of day to be crawling about under studio desks, rewiring, rejigging, installing equipment, running tests ?
Well, no, but that's what we've been doing anyway.
The fuel to keep everything going, is a rather closely guarded secret recipe, a rather sensational 'summer special' drink, concocted by a certain Mr Reece, which has, in the past, been enjoyed hugely by the likes of Pixie, and Zoe. This really is some drink. Hard work deserves a reward !
.
Tonight, it's Zoe's turn to hit the RTI and Sky airwaves, with her Paranoimia Show. If you haven't heard it on the Pod already, do tune in, 9pm UK time, to rti.fm, and Sky 0195.
.
Sunday night, and the Scotsman returns, with what he decided as - and I quote - "hmm, rather a mixed bag, this one". Ah, but isn't that always the way ?
Tune in at 8pm Sunday, rti.fm on the net, or Sky 0195 on Satellite, to hear the likes of Ian Hunter, Siouxsie, Lambchop, Andrew Vasquez, Elvis Costello and more... and this particular Show hits the Pod late on Sunday evening, too.

Less crawling around...

Holiday weekend greetings from London town...

Truth be told, it's been a relatively lazy one so far, with plans not quite going as expected. Much crawling around under mixing desks was planned, pretending to be audio and electrical wizards (we do that, you know).
But for those dreaded three words so prevalent in the industry these days ('out of stock'), we would have been. A new sparkling piece of equipment was going to be collected today, but wasn't available. Which brings me to a gripe.
So many online companies advertise goods that they never actually have.
Fine them and close them down if that is found to be the case, I say !
I have worked in the mail order business, and with some pride I can say have never advertised anything we didn't actually have in stock.
So, the crawling around amongst lots of wires was delayed today, though I suspect this may well happen later in the week, as AZ Studio improvements will indeed happen.
Tomorrow, for instance, a trip to the leafy glades in is order, to pick up some equipment. By next weekend, something tells me the main studio here at AZ Towers will look a little different. Maybe not to the untrained eye - but there will be lots of changes, believe me !
We have worked this weekend on audio improvements, which we are pleased with, too.

Incidentally, Mr Reece promises us 'superb' (his words) new music from both The Teenagers and Smoosh, the odd jazzy piece of genius from Miles Davis and Dexter Gordon, Girly 60s sounds from The Crystals and The Ronettes, and much more besides.

A Bank Holiday weekend beckons, people zipping off to foreign climes, or the odd seaside rendezvous. That's what these weekends are for in the UK, let's be honest.

Not for us though, as technical jollities are what concern us, so there will be much crawling under desks and mixers and mucking about with wires.

A lot.

This is in lieu of other shows to come, and a general improvement in sound quality demanded by a certain Scotsman, who, errm, shall remain nameless.

Add to this, plans afoot for some new equipment are on the way, too.

Should all go swimingly well, the main Studio here at AZ Towers will have rather a different look in weeks to come.

Or, 'anniverary', would be more precise.
Not that we're particularly prone to celebrating these, depending what they are, but I thought it worth mentioning that it was 17 years ago on this very day, April 10th 1991, when a certain Scotsmans dulcet tones were first heard on the European and World airwaves.

Hi Zoners,
it's all action on the Pod front. Normally, when we have a large load of new AZ Programmes at hand, we drip feed them to you (just in case you overdose, you understand).
Not so this time. We're going for it, and it's up to you whether you can take it.

Shows and snow ! 6th April 2008

Happy weekend to all !
Bit of a shock when I (eventually) opened the curtains this morning, to find that about 5 inches of snow fell on old London town during the night.
What's going on ? So much for global warming. It doesn't seem to be sticking around though.
Now esconced in the Studio, editing to do, and a few thoughts on tonights Show.

I love it when I find an artist that I seem to have missed, and the music is just so damn brilliant that I have to have everything they have released, all at once.
It's something that doesn't happen often, but it has with Fabienne Delsol.
After airing a couple of tracks last time out, I've taken a step back just a few years further in her career, when she fronted a Band called The Bristols, and will be playing 2 tracks from them tonight.
Hoping, hoping, hoping, that some gigs may be in the offing from Fabienne, who is now solo. It would be so good to see some of those songs done 'Live'. No news on that as yet though.

Another find, courtesy of my Album Zone colleague Zoe, is Sophie Kay, who, no doubt, you will be hearing in future Shows.
Tonight though, as well as Fabienne/The Bristols, there's a fab track from VNV Nation, really haunting this one. A newie from the B52s, a vintage French trip with Christine Pilzer, some superb Alex Harvey, and a look too at a real landmark Album, with a fascinating story behind it, from Marvin Gaye.
Way back, when Marvin was going through a painful divorce, the judge ordered that his wife/ex-wife, as part of the settlement, was to receive ALL royalties from his next Album. It makes for fascinating listening now. 'Beautifully painful', is how I'd describe it.
So, 2 tracks from that tonight, the melancholy 'I Met A Little Girl' which describes their romantic meeting early on, and later, the bitter 'Is That Enough'. The Album, is rather tellingly called 'Here, My Dear'.

Expect to hear other favourites too, including the very first Single from a 17 year old Marc Bolan, in 1965.

Hoping you may give it a listen - and if you don't, catch up with it all later on the Album Zone Pod, will you ?

Power failure at AZ Towers

Hi Zoneheads...
oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

This is a first.

A bulletin update from an internet cafe !

Complete and total power failure of the building housing AZ towers, a real burnout of the main power boxes.

Not a thing we can do, until later.

So, please excuse the lack of updates to Pods, and suchlike.

We should know later if this will just be a 24 hour thing, or (gulp) a lot longer. Until then, all PCs and the Main Studio itself, are down.

What a strange place a Radio Studio is, when it's silent !

Happily, all shows for this coming weekend (to RTI) and next week (to Radio Seagull) had already been transferred and lined up, just the day before.

Phew !

Hopefully, back soon... we'll keep you informed.

Music lost a great innovator this week.
For those who have heard early Beatles, Pink Floyd, the psychedelic sound of The Pretty Things... what have they all in common ?
They were all touched by the hand of Norman Smith.
Later, he left Abbey Road Studios behind, and turned hitmaker for himself, with 'Oh Babe What Would You Say', 'Don't Let It Die', and 'Who Was It'.
The Hurricane died this week, aged 85. We'll miss him.
